When a tooth is unable to fully emerge into its position in the dental arch, it becomes stuck under the gums, and we refer to it as “impacted.” The most common impacted teeth are the canines, located at the front of the mouth, and wisdom teeth, the third set of molars in the back of the mouth. While wisdom teeth are most commonly removed, your canines are vital for tearing food and for the alignment of your bite and your other teeth. To treat impacted canines, your orthodontist will work hand in hand with one of our oral surgeons to perform an exposure and bonding procedure.

An exposure and bonding procedure is most common in younger patients and involves revealing the tooth from beneath the gum and gently pulling it down with a bracket and chain. Oral surgeons are highly qualified to perform the procedure, and our doctors have extensive training and experience treating impacted teeth. To hear from past impacted tooth exposure patients about how good our doctors are, and how easily they were able to alleviate patients’ fears and produce optimal results, feel free to watch the video testimonials below.
